Oral history capture — steward protocol

How a folk telling is taken: consent, the right name, the audio kept off this index, place reduced when a home would be exposed. The protocol is the record. The tellings are separate seals.

ORAL HISTORY CAPTURE — STEWARD PROTOCOL

1. Consent is recorded before the story, and it can be withdrawn before the seal. After the seal, withdrawal is a new record that points at the old leaf. The old leaf stays. That cost of immutability is explained before anyone speaks. 2. The speaker chooses the name on the abstract: legal name, pseudonym, or none. 3. This gateway receives only the abstract the speaker approved. It does not receive the audio. 4. A folk telling is not corrected for house style. 5. Place, when it would identify a private home, is reduced to a region the speaker accepted. 6. Sacred or restricted material is not "public if hashed." If the speaker says it does not leave the community, the public index gets a holding notice or nothing. Silence is a valid seal decision.

This protocol is the record. Tellings taken under it are separate seals, each with their own custody.
